1.come out in the wash
A:指某件事情會得到圓滿解決。
例:
My buddies and I are organizing a biking trip across the country. We
haven't mapped out the entire route or arranged for our food or lodging. But I think there's plenty of time to work out the details. It'll all come out in the wash by the time we leave.
我那幫哥們兒正在籌劃一次騎車橫跨美國的旅行。雖然我們還沒有確定整個行程的路線,也沒有安排好食宿,但是我相信還有足夠的時間敲定這些細節。到出發的時候,一切都會水到渠成。
B:come out in the wash 還有水落石出,真相大白的意思。
例:
The governor claims that he resigned because of a health crisis. So
far he's refused to answer reporters' questions. Perhaps he's afraid
of what might come out in the wash. Maybe they'll find out that he's
trying to cover up what could become a political scandal!
記者報導說:這個州長自稱是因為身體不好才辭職的。但是他一直拒絕回答記者的問題,也許他是擔心暴露真相。記者們或許最后會發現,他其實是掩蓋一件可能成為政治丑聞的事情。
2.Cash cow 指搖錢樹或者是一個企業里特別盈利的部門。
例:
When David Beckham joined the L.A. Galaxy, he created a lot of attention. Americans who had never watched soccer suddenly started buying tickets. But will he be worth the millions that the team paid for him in years to come? Is he their cash cow?"

3. Carry the day.指一個人一件事、或是一種意見占據上風的意思。
例:
When architect Maya Lin first proposed her design for the Vietnam War memorial, critics thought it wasn't traditional enough. They didn't think a granite wall that sloped into the ground was a proper tribute for those who lost their lives. Eventually her plan carried the day, going on become one of the most visited sites in Washington, D.C.

4.bread and butter 是生計,主要收入來源的意思。
例:
When I saw my neighbor Katie's artwork at a gallery, I was amazed by her talent. I assumed that painting was her bread and butter. But she told me that it's only a hobby;she couldn't live on the money she makes from the paintings she sells.
